Hardware

Software is written in a UNIX classic style to provide a clear separation between a biometric engine and a hardware. Therefore, it is possible to support any biometric scanner under one condition: biometric engine must be adapted to the specific image quality and size (this is a classic problem of a hardware limitations). Most biometric fingerprint scanners have a vendor-specific command set and a hardware interfaces (USB, RS-232C, RS-485, IEEE-1284 and others).
It is expected to appear the network scanner independent about the hardware platform or operating system software.
For example, remote_scanner application from pam_bfp package is the software implementation of the network biometric scanner (it can be used on Unix and Windows platforms).
